WEDDING GIFT GUIDE

Let us take ourselves back to the 1960’s, when the tradition was for couples (or more accurately, the ladies!) to be given items for their ‘bottom drawer’, these presents were put away for best and only brought out for ‘high days and holidays’. Many of Robert Welch’s iconic Old Hall stainless steel pieces were given as wedding presents, such as his Campden toast rack, Alveston tea set or canteens of silver cutlery, and ended up in such a drawer. We have even bought some of these pieces back for our archive, unused and still boxed!

Today’s couples want to make use of what they have been given, and often use a wedding list to request functional gifts – new cookware, cutlery, or a knife set (ignoring the old superstition that it is bad luck to give knives).

There is not really a perception of ‘kept for best’, in the same way as there once was. So, we have curated some gift ideas for you to choose your ideal gift…

Practical ideas

Couples may already live with one another or plan to set up home together once married, but either way a set of stunning cutlery, new cookware or bathroom décor may be just what they need.

Break with tradition and gift that Knife block set or invest in one or two key kitchen staples – a good saucepan, a utensil or two and a cook’s knife, to get them started in the kitchen.

Thoughtful ideas

A gift-card together with a choice of three sample sets of cutlery allows the couple to make their own choice of pattern.

Does the couple you are buying for already own a cutlery set? Buy them matching cheese knives, a cake knife or a carving set.

Our Windrush candleholders were designed so that two could be interlocked, so a pair make the ideal wedding gift.

How about the Scribe desk set, the perfect accompaniment to that pile of thank you cards...
